we dig the grounds of our ancestors
in search of their remains
we want to know how they once lived
of their happiness and pain
but we only scratch the surface
of our own identity still
and it seems to me we always will
we search for life beyond the human race
we search for some small trace
we conquered the moon
then headed for the stars
we’ll soon reach outer space
but we can’t see the horizon
of our own identity
and hey hey! i’m sure we never will
we must not forget ourselves
in this scientific show
we are living in this world
and we’ve still to find out how
we’re not made to live forever
our life is here and now
bigger, faster, better, best
we go for superlatives
the perfect look, the perfect face
technology advances
but nothing is as perfect
as our pure life itself
and hey hey! i hope it never will
we must not forget ourselves...
we know so much about the origin of life
we know the past and look out for future times
we know so much about the earth and all that is around
but we know next to nothing of what’s it all about
