i stood upon the balcony for some fresh air
and panned across the houses in the yard,
and what was there?
i caught a glimpse of what i call a beauty queen
she sat there at her garden chair
and drank some tea
and so i knew i had to try to make her
pay attention to me
but she gazed elsewhere – not at me –
as she drank her tea
so i felt bad about this state of ignorance
when suddenly i made a plan,
i was in with a chance!
i wrote a lovers letter and i folded it
and threw my paper plane across the air
but my message never reached her
the plane was carried high,
away from where she sat
and now i knew the only chance i had was to try again
another sheet of paper and another plane
the letter got even more poetic than the first
and i placed a drop of perfume
right beside the words
i used a straw to check the wind’s direction
and sent my paper plane across the yard
and this time it appeared it would have reached her
but it landed right there in her cup of tea
oh what a misery!
i used a straw to check the wind’s direction
and i threw another plane across the tree
and this time it actually reached her
and she threw a paper plane back up to me
